What To Look For When Buying Fitness Machines

Many people think about buying fitness machines, especially from television infomercials. You know the ones I am talking about. The ones with the chislled and muscular physiques, who swear that they reached the pinnacle of fitness just by using the fitness machines that they are using.

At the end of the day anybody can reach high levels of fitness without the use of any machine. We all want a shortcut to fitness, manufacturers and advertiser are well aware of this. So they cater for our hopes by showing us products that are meant to take the hard work out of exercise.

The bottom line is that whether you use a machine or not, it is still going to be hard work, this is something that you are not going to avoid. Think of the fitness machines that you or someone you know has purchased in the past. How long was it used for before it ended up in the garage collecting dust?

I’m not saying that machines don’t work, because they can do. No machine is going outmatch commitment and motivation. These are the two traits which will decide whether you get fit or not.

If you are thinking of buying one of the vast array of fitness machines out there, there are a few things you need to think about first.

If It’s Too Good To Be True….

Remember that the goal of these adverts is for you to pick up the phone and give them your credit card details. So with this in mind they will focus their sales pitch on making their product easy to use and potentially give you miracle results.

Keep in mind that if you can’t do 10 crunches off your own back, you are unlikely to do 20-30 crunches on an ab machine. You will still need to put in a lot of effort. The people in these adverts are paid fitness models, it is their job to look fit, don’t think you will end up looking like them in a couple of months, because you won’t.

Fat Burning Machines

If these adverts tell you that their fitness machine can target certain areas on your body and remove fat from those areas, then they are lying to you. It is not possible to rid the fat just of a particular body area. Your body works as a whole and doesn’t have independent metabolic systems for individual parts of the body.

Be Wary OF Testimonials

Never be fooled by those before and after pictures because most of them are scams. I have a friend who was a photographer for a fitness magazine many years ago. He informed me that before and after pictures were often done on the same day for magazines.

The before pictures involved the subject leaning forward a little, with shoulders slumped, stomach pushed out, and looking unhappy. The after pictures involved the subject standing up straight, with shoulders back, stomach held in, and smiling. A Fake tan was often applied and computers were used to make adjustments to the photos.

If you think about it, have you ever seen a before picture with the subject smiling or looking happy?

If you want to buy fitness machines, go ahead, but do your homework. Make sure that you are definitely going to use it, I don’t mean just for a couple of weeks either. If that is the case, it would be better to save your money and do some homework on bodyweight exercises. They can be at least as effective as fitness machines.
